Memory Verses

Last Week

But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,

nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him”— these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything,

even the depths of God.

I Corinthians 2:9-10

This Week

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one

that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ.

I Corinthians 3:11

Dear Friends,

We first want to welcome our newest member, Sharon Lorvig. Sharon is a new face in our choir and she come to us from Wisconsin as a reaffirmation from her United Methodist Congregation there. She has also found a welcoming place in the Al Rose Sunday School Class. Please take the time to welcome Sharon!

We will have our first meeting of our new combined committee of Trustees & Finance this Wednesday at 5:00pm in the Library. This is the Committee that oversees our financial health and practices plus oversees the repairs and maintenance of our property. Over the past three years, our Trustees have been our busiest committee with the oversight of our policies during the pandemic and the various adjustments made in building use. Here are some of the changes they approved:

  • Reopening our Preschool in an isolated corridor which kept exposure to a minimum.

  • Moving of Sue's Table to drive-through.

  • Moving of our Food Pantry to the Wesley Center.

  • Repairs and updates to the Wesley Center, including the update to the sidewalk and drive.

  • Conversion to more energy efficient lighting.

  • Getting air filters in all rooms.

  • Oversee sale of property given as a memorial to the church.

Even though our giving towards the budget was down in 2022, our overall giving and donations were up substantially primarily due to a government personnel refund program and a real estate sale. Finance has overseen the movement of most of our financial assets into interest bearing accounts. We are in the process of opening two additional endowment accounts with the Methodist Foundation. We are preparing a chart to show the congregation how our money is spent.

Please put February 12th on your calendar. Yes, it is Superbowl Sunday but for us, it is also Souper Bowl Sunday. It is the return of our annual fundraiser for the Food Pantry but it is also a celebration of Forty years of Food Pantry and Seven years of Sue's Table. We plan to invite the teams that have supported us. You will make it happen by making a crockpot of your favorite soup again. If you cannot make soup, make a dessert. It will be a great Sunday and a return of a cherished event.

Thank you for support the ministry of Camden First United Methodist Church through your prayers, presence, gifts service, and witness!

Grace and peace,

Beth
